Are you bearing fruits as a child of God? This is the question asked all the time to believers in Christ Jesus.

Now, what is a fruit? 

A fruit is the result of planting the seed of God in a Christian. According to 1 Peter 1:23, Everyone born of God or born again have the seed of God deposited in them. This seed can be ; a) the word of God, b) the spiritual gifts given to us, c ) the talents God given to us.

Every believer is required to plant the seeds of God in them in order to bear fruits and the fruits that we bear must be lasting and they must multiply. ( John 15:1-2, Matthew 7:16-20)

The four (4) soils for bearing fruits  ( Mathew 13:1-19, Luke 8:4-15, Mark 4:1-20)

In the parable of the sower, the focus was on the seed and where the fell; what circumstances and situations allow these seeds to grow and bear fruits. we identify from the scriptures, four (4) type of soils that the seeds fell on. These four soils also represent the type of heart condition of the beliecer when the worrd of God is preached to them.

1. The soil by the roadside

2. The Thorny Soil

3. The Rocky Soil

4. The Good Soil

Let's discuss the characteristics of the first soil - roadside soil heart;  the roadside is usually full of activity. Movement of people and animals makes the seed to be trampled upon, also birds come and eat the seed that fell on the roadside, seeds that fell on the roadside don't germinate and they don't grow well to bear fruits. The behavior of people with roadside soil heart is that, they don't pay attention to the word, they don't understand the word, they are rebellious to the word and the w in them word have no effect on their lives. The word is lost in them because Satan comes and steal the word from the hearts. These people cannot bear fruits to the glory of God.

The characteristics of the thorny soil are, it has less soil for germination, the roots of the plants are obstructed by the presence of the thorns, there is less water, nutrients and air for the plants and the soil is shallow. The people who have this type of soil heart are usually confused with the word, they show sadness, worry, frustration and even disappointment towards GOD. These people listen to the word and receive it into their hearts, but they don't fully believe in it. They fail to act on the word because of their shallow faith in God. They struggle to bear fruits and if they even try to bear fruits, those fruits don't last because the roots are not deeply grounded. The thorns represent the persecution, trials and temptation that come against them because of the word, but they are not able to overcome them. They usually give up in face of staggering opposition because of lack of faith.
